The Network Management module offers centralised and simplified network computer and printer management and user account administration, it is designed to integrate most of the administration functions needed on a Windows network into a unified tool available for use anywhere on the network.

Computer Management

The Management Console allows a network administrator to message, log off, restart or shut down individual or groups of users and workstations, as well as offering more advanced features such as the ability to remotely enforce group policy updates and image backup and restore across the network.

Integration with Microsoft’s Remote Desktop technology allows the administrator to remotely connect to and manage, another computer over the network.

The asset manager lists all devices that are attached to the network and individual devices can be interrogated to give system specifications and a maintenance history.

Management Console

Software Deployment

The Management Console also integrates with SchoolSuite’s software deployment tools to manage and initiate the deployment of application packages.

Application packages are created using a "before and after snapshot" of changes made to a computer during a software installation routine, the changes are built into a single executable file that can be scheduled for automatic deployment on other computers requiring the same software.

The software deployment tools are integrated with the Asset Management and Workstation Recovery features of SchoolSuite, so that applications can be added to the software audit as they are deployed.

Once the software has been deployed the workstation backup image can be automatically updated to ensure future image recovery operations will restore with the software already installed.

Network Manager

Task Management

The Management Console will also allow the Network Administrator to log and escalate faults on the network. These will then be presented on the main screen with different colours to indicate the level of fault that has been logged.

The benefit of this feature is that it will give the Network Administrator an immediate snapshot of the situation of the network, showing what equipment requires attention and how urgently, as well as flagging the status of faulty equipment to Teachers.

The escalation function within Asset Manager will allow the Network Administrator to escalate any urgent issues on specific network devices.

Session Management

The Management Console can track user logon, logoff and session status information as well as notify you when certain users logon to the network.

The session information view illustrates all the users currently logged on and their location, allowing you to send messages, log the user off, check their user account status or, if the Remote Tutor option is installed, watch and interact with what they are doing.

User Management

The Management Console facilitates the creation and administration of all user accounts on the network and provides the ability to delete groups of students and their home directories in one action.

Aside from the management of student accounts at a group or individual level, other useful features are the ability to bulk import user accounts from a common text file (such as a CSV file), administer passwords and access rights, as well as disk and print quotas.
