This video demonstrates how to use the HAL Configuration Wizard (HalTest) to configure an emergency recovery menu that will allow a different HAL and Kernel combination to be selected by pressing F8 when windows starts to load. This feature can be extremely useful when testing a computer for possible compatibility with an existing disk image, as it greatly simplifies the recovery process if the computer should fail to start from the HAL being tested.

The video demonstrates how to use the wizard to configure the emergency recovery menu however, as you may notice from the list of actions available from the drop down list, the wizard can also be used to permanently change the HAL being used or force the recovery menu to display every time the computer starts.

The Image Prep Tool is designed to simplify the process of preparing a computer for disk imaging, allowing the operating system and software configuration to become the base on which other computers on the network can be cloned. By moving the resulting image to other computers and repeating the process it is often possible to produce a single Master Image File that can be used on any workstation on the network.

For staff with portable computers Teacher Resources can be configured so that the lesson location can be selected from a list and the computer will be configured to work with the resources in the room. This feature is configured via computer or user base group policy settings.

The video demonstrates a user based approach, enabling the option for all Teachers. The computer based method is identical apart from the selecting the computer container as opposed to the user container. You can see the effect the policy changes have on Teacher Resources in the corresponding Teacher Resources demonstration.

To save time installing software onto multiple computers without the need to visit each machine in turn you can create an install kit from an initial software installation, and deploy that kit to any combination of computers within the SchoolSuite network in one go.

Once you have built your install kit you need to deploy it to the computers you wish to run the software on. This video will show you how to add the kit to the software deployment program, choose which computers you wish to install the kit onto and finally deploy the kit.

Once an install kit has been deployed or new software is added to the server that users need access to, they will require the appropriate icons to run the software. This video will show you how to take the icons and add them to the users desktop profile on the server so that when the user next logs in, the new programs are available to them.

Once the shortcuts are copied you need to run the "Update Desktop Wizard" program so that when a user logs on, the latest version of their desktop profile is loaded and the appropriate program shortcuts are available to them.

This video demonstrates how to add group policy support for a new Offline Desktop folder.

Certain departments or business units may have desktop security requirements that differ from those normally covered by the normal Student, Teacher, and Technician desktop settings and may require their own desktop folders. This video demonstrates how to configure the group policy settings for a global security group called 'Librarian Users' so that members of the group will receive their own Desktop and Start Menu folders when using the SchoolSuite Offline Desktop.

The demonstration assumes that a 'Librarian Users' global user group, 'Librarians' desktop folder structure and offline folder file have already been created and covers the following areas of group policy configuration:

Creating a new domain group policy link.
Setting the policy security so it applies to the correct users.
Assigning the correct policy template file.
Changing the default folder redirection settings.
Setting the SchoolSuite user policy to support the Offline Desktop.

There is a limitation when using Active Directory to control the wallpaper displayed on the user's desktop; bitmap wallpapers can only controlled via what windows calls an 'unmanaged policy setting'. These settings are normally hidden by the Group Policy Management Console unless a filter is removed to allow settings that cannot be managed to be displayed.

This video demonstrates how to change unmanaged policy setting that controls which wallpaper bitmap file displayed when a user logs onto the network.

When you import users the system will generate login names based on the rules in the user template you select. These login names need to be be unique, if they are not they will be highlighted for your attention. You will see how to delete just one document, all the documents or only the duplicated documents sent to a printer. Once a new student intake year has been setup (see video in Management Console), you can import a CSV text file of new students (this CSV text file can be compiled by using the Schools Information Management System (SIMS).

If you need to extract a list of all the Students from the Schools Information Management System (SIMS) into a file suitable for importing into the SchoolSuite Bulk User Import Wizard, a step-by-step walk through is available that will allow you to create a Comma Separated Values (CSV) text file that can be used by the SchoolSuite Import Wizard to bulk create user accounts on the curriculum network.
