Using HAL Test to configure an emergency recovery menu |
This video demonstrates how to use the HAL Configuration Wizard (HalTest) to configure an emergency recovery menu that will allow a different HAL and Kernel combination to be selected by pressing F8 when windows starts to load. This feature can be extremely useful when testing a computer for possible compatibility with an existing disk image, as it greatly simplifies the recovery process if the computer should fail to start from the HAL being tested. The video demonstrates how to use the wizard to configure the emergency recovery menu however, as you may notice from the list of actions available from the drop down list, the wizard can also be used to permanently change the HAL being used or force the recovery menu to display every time the computer starts. |

Image Preparation Tool Demonstration |
The Image Prep Tool is designed to simplify the process of preparing a computer for disk imaging, allowing the operating system and software configuration to become the base on which other computers on the network can be cloned. By moving the resulting image to other computers and repeating the process it is often possible to produce a single Master Image File that can be used on any workstation on the network. |

Configuring Teacher Resources classroom locations in group policy. |
For staff with portable computers Teacher Resources can be configured so that the lesson location can be selected from a list and the computer will be configured to work with the resources in the room. This feature is configured via computer or user base group policy settings. The video demonstrates a user based approach, enabling the option for all Teachers. The computer based method is identical apart from the selecting the computer container as opposed to the user container. You can see the effect the policy changes have on Teacher Resources in the corresponding Teacher Resources demonstration. |

How to add a new offline desktop |
This video demonstrates how to add group policy support for a new Offline Desktop folder. Certain departments or business units may have desktop security requirements that differ from those normally covered by the normal Student, Teacher, and Technician desktop settings and may require their own desktop folders. This video demonstrates how to configure the group policy settings for a global security group called 'Librarian Users' so that members of the group will receive their own Desktop and Start Menu folders when using the SchoolSuite Offline Desktop. The demonstration assumes that a 'Librarian Users' global user group, 'Librarians' desktop folder structure and offline folder file have already been created and covers the following areas of group policy configuration: Creating a new domain group policy link. Setting the policy security so it applies to the correct users. Assigning the correct policy template file. Changing the default folder redirection settings. Setting the SchoolSuite user policy to support the Offline Desktop. |

How to change the wallpaper policy setting |
There is a limitation when using Active Directory to control the wallpaper displayed on the user's desktop; bitmap wallpapers can only controlled via what windows calls an 'unmanaged policy setting'. These settings are normally hidden by the Group Policy Management Console unless a filter is removed to allow settings that cannot be managed to be displayed. This video demonstrates how to change unmanaged policy setting that controls which wallpaper bitmap file displayed when a user logs onto the network. |
